Readers Forum > Merci !

Our family (my wife, 16 yr. old son & I) have just returned to Boston from Paris. We'd like to thank you for two wonderful recommendations in your book:
La Ferrandaise and Les Papilles.
Both are great "neighborhood" restaurants, in the best sense of the word. Wherever we travel, these are the type of places we seek out. In particular, we loved Les Papilles & Bertrand Bluy, who's a wonderful host. To walk around the front of the restaurant and pick out just the right wine for our dinner, is a great way to begin a meal. And the panna cotta for dessert was sublime. We sincerely hope that success won't overwhelm his charmimg establishment.

Did I read recently that Pierre au Palais Royal is no more? Sad, if it is so.

All the best,

Charles

Dear Charles,

Thanks for your message, and I'm delighted you enjoyed Les Papilles and La Ferrandaise. Next time you're over, try L'Epigramme, which is just off the place de l'Odeon and which I recently reviewed on this site.

Pierre au Palais Royal soldiers on, but it's a shadow of what it was in the great days when they did dishes like boeuf a la ficelle and other classics of French bourgeois cooking.

All best, Alec
